My humps, my humps…my lovely lady lumps. Chhhheeeeccccckkkk it out.
I’ve got you covered, literally! Some of the best advice ever given to me by my mom (okay, she always gives good advice but, this is one I need to share) was to buy a good bra with good support. It’s important to wear a good, supportive bra underneath your clothes. Especially when you’re young so you won’t be saggy when you’re old. A nude, white or black, always, and you never want your bra to show! Thanks for teaching me, Mom!
This post is going to be a little more personal than I usually get. I’m going to tell you just how I choose my bras and why I choose these bras! So, if you don’t want to hear about bras and breasts, maybe fast forward through this post! Choosing the right bra for you is so important; remember these tips when bra shopping (I like to shop at Nordstrom, Victoria’s Secret and Soma for bras)!
When trying on bras, wear a good white tee. You know the one that you’ll be able to see everything. You’ll be able to give the TRUE test to see if the bra is going to be a good one. Or if you’re shopping for a specific outfit, take that outfit with you to try it out and make sure the bra works.
Here is how to find the best fitting bra for you…
For Nursing Bras: Go for comfort. You want support, yes, but you ultimately want comfort. I found that this Le Mystere Nursing Bra gives me the most comfort while not making me look like a) I’m a milkmaid and b) I’m not sagging to my toes. Truth be told…sorry non-moms, but it’s true. You are going to want to measure (or be measured at one of these places) when your milk is full and you are the biggest. Also, you are going to want to be measured after 3 weeks when your milk has regulated and then again after 6 months when your baby is eating less and then again when your baby has been weaned (for a non-nursing bra). This bra actually comes in so many different sizes, so it’s a great option for everyone. It also comes in underwire and non underwire (so you can avoid those clogged ducts). It’s the best one I’ve found. Can I just mention, why in the world has anyone not invented a way to turn your favorite bra into a nursing bra already?? Shark Tank, get on that…k?!
For Strapless Bras: I learned this while shopping for bras to sew inside of my wedding dress. The associate at Nordstrom told me something I’ll never forget… You need to go up a cup size or two (which might mean you need to go down a size around) to get that seamless and flattering fit for a strapless. My mouth about dropped to the floor when she brought me the size, and I was like oh nooooo way is this going to fit, but surely so it was perfect! For nursing mamas and strapless bras, I had to go up several cup sizes and kept the size around the same. The Le Mystere and Wacoal are great options for strapless bras which are found at Nordstrom. I wear the Le Mystere one and it’s been my favorite for about 6 years now. A good strapless is crucial for that cute off-the-shoulder trend you’ve been seeing this season!
For the Backless Outfit: I also found these cool little things when I was shopping for my wedding. These are like pasties, but give you much more support. They are sticky bra cups. You can stick them wherever you need to (closer to the armpit to pull your breasts in which gives more cleavage). They are a great option for that backless dress or fun summer outfit when you still need some sort of bra for coverage.
For a Little Oomph: My all-time-favorite bra is the Victoria’s Secret Very Sexy Push-Up. I’ve worn this bra for years and I’m so glad they haven’t discontinued it! There are so many different options for colors and even multi-way straps. The sizes are a range that usually work for most (even me, when I’m nursing) so it’s a great option for all. I will mention that if you already are large busted, this might not be a great option as it’s going to lift greatly.
For Fun: I love bralettes or bandeaus for fun things to show! This is like the only time that your bra showing is acceptable for a 30 year old, so I love it! I will be featuring a cute little dress and how to wear a bralette under it next week, so stay tuned!
For Everyone: Just choose a good bra for you. Not every one body is the same and our breasts are no exception! They can change (especially with pregnancy and nursing, weight gain/loss) so be sure that you have a good fit to ensure all of your clothes look top notch on ya! This bra is a great option for everyone, I think. My mom, sister and I are all different sizes/shapes and it works on all 3 of us!
If you’ve never been fitted for a correct bra size, I really do recommend going to Nordstrom, Victoria’s Secret or Soma to get a correct fit!
