We all need sleep, and more of it…am I right? It doesn’t matter how much sleep I get, never fails; I always need more. I’m constantly running on caffeine and no sleep, but it’s not my kids faults. In fact, they are incredible sleepers and I amc sharing our secrets to get your baby to SLEEP today!
You know when you think the sleepless nights and no-napping will never end? It’s time to do something, mama. It’s time to get that baby to sleep and stay asleep. I have two toddlers currently, and while I’d like to say that we were blessed with good sleepers, they didn’t come they way. You hear, “oh, I hope you get a good baby that sleeps….” well every baby can sleep, they just need to be taught how to sleep. Given these strategies, I have two really great sleepers which in turn makes me a very happy mommy.
Like I said, my babies didn’t come out of the womb created to sleep in perfection. I trained them to sleep and created a sleeping routine and expectations for success. Here are a few of my secrets, and I promise if you stick with it…your baby WILL sleep.
- Educate Yourself // Study different methods and decide what is right for you. We purchased Sleep Easy Solution with our first baby, and started it at 6 months (when this mama couldn’t take it anymore). It was highly successful for us as she started sleeping 12 hours a night in just under a week. I followed the schedule with my second and she didn’t skip a beat. She started sleeping from the beginning.
- Create a Flexible Schedule // A good schedule is key. Sticking with it is even more key. Babies/kids crave consistency. Even if it’s organized chaos at times, at least your babies (and you) know what will happen next. We used Sleep Easy Solution and the eat/play/sleep routine. It wasn’t a set schedule of times, but a routine of what will happen next. Again, be realistic. Take time to study your baby’s habits and know when they will sleep. Optimize that time for getting things done, time for self-care or taking a nap and having the dang Oreo in peace.
- 2 Words: Nap Time // Do NOT, I repeat, DO NOT let your baby get into a bad napping pattern. After you’ve created the routine, stick with it and be consistent. Kids thrive on consistency and knowing exactly what will happen and when. If you’re out and about, try to go around nap time but of course don’t rearrange your life around your baby’s sleep. There is always going to be events and it’s a flexible routine. Set that monitor up and go do something for YOU!
- Invest in a Good Monitor // Having eyes on your baby when you aren’t holding her is so important! I love to have the monitor screen next to me whenever I am doing anything. I take it to the bath, kitchen or outside when the babes are sleeping. I absolutely love this Levana Willow™ 5” HD Touchscreen PTZ Video Baby Monitor. Some things to look for when purchasing a video monitor: great reviews, accessibility, touch screen, quality and ability to add cameras. Levana Willow has all of these things. It’s quickly become our favorite monitor of all time.
- Be Age Appropriate // Depending on the age of your child, he/she needs a certain amount of sleep per 24 hours. My 18 month old is sleeping 12 hours at night and taking one 2-3 hour nap during the day. Every child is different, and it might be trial and error, but make sure that the sleep you are giving them is age appropriate. You can check HERE.
- Bedtime Routines // Set specific bedtime routines. Every night, my kids: bathe, pajama, turn on white noise/lullabies and get into bed. We always read a book and always say a prayer before bed. The ritual lets them know that it’s bed time and they will be sleeping soon, no matter the age. This comes in especially helpful when you are traveling, because if the ritual is the same, they will always know that it is bed/nap time. Our nap routine looks a bit different, but it’s the same everyday.
- Stay Strong // DO NOT go pick that baby up everytime she fusses. I did not do cry it out method, but we did let them fuss and learn to self-soothe. It was the best thing we ever did, and with the video monitor we could see exactly what was going on in her crib and hear her. We could even talk to her (although she didn’t respond well to that). To read more on sleep training, HERE is some helpful information.
The Levana Willow™ 5” HD Touchscreen PTZ Video Baby Monitor is available for purchase HERE and HERE for $229. I cannot say enough good things about how this has changed the way that I am able to function at home all day (and all night lots of times during harvest). I have peace of mind knowing that my babies are safe in their beds, seeing that they are breathing and sleeping, and able to take it with me wherever I go in my home.
Here are some of my favorite features of the Levana Willow:
Touch Screen
Lullabies/White Noise (we use this every day)
Feed/Schedule Timer (especially handy for babies still eating through the night)
Battery Life – it stays charged longer than any monitor we’ve tried (up to 12 hours)

Would love to win! We just had our third (three girls three and under) and our old monitor is now used in the room with the older two since they just started sharing. The baby is still with me at night but I’ll definitely need a new nursery monitor!
