Since I’m nearing the end of my pregnancy, I wanted to share the things that I’ve found and loved throughout them! I’m going to start with the first trimester, which seems like ages ago! I’ve had good intentions of getting these posts done for WEEKS now, so I’ve got notes on what I loved back in those first weeks! If you’re in your first trimester and were anything like me….you’re gonna need these things!
Morning Sickness
We all know I had my fair share of this so I was willing to try whatever.worked.and.work.quickly! I taught kindergarten throughout my whole pregnancy, so staying home sick was not an option. I had to feel well and function well enough to run a classroom full of 16 kiddos. Here are the things that I found that helped me.
Unisom — yes, this is a crazy one. I broke half a tablet and took it with my prenatal vitamins at bedtime. This kept me from getting sick in the middle of the night and it’s completely safe.
Preggie Pop Drops — These worked for a while until I started puking my guts up, yes, I know…so glamorous. If you can stand sweet, these have ginger in them and help a little bit. If you’re lucky, you can just use these and not anything else. Or if you’re REAL lucky, you don’t get morning sickness. Which was ALL DAY EVERY DAY sickness for me. YUCK!
Zofran — aka the miracle drug. This was the ONE thing that worked for me to help me function. I was just taking 1/2 tablet a day but it was the only way I was able to eat or drink anything. I took it the second I woke up in the morning before I even sat up with ginger ale and a cracker. The trick is to do this before you ever get out of bed! If you wait too long, you’ll end up throwing up and then feeling better. I prevented the throw up and took this asap.
My favorite drink was Lime Ices from Sonic. They may say that they can’t make it…but just tell them it is LOTS of limes squeezed over ice and send packets of salt and a spoon. This was about all I ate on certain days. It was a LIFE SAVER.
Dry skin was an issue for me at the beginning of pregnancy. I don’t know if it was the time of year or the hormones, but I was sooooo itchy and flaky. I started using Mustela Stretch Mark Cream the day I found out I was pregnant to prevent stretch marks, and then used this Express Hydration lotion everywhere else. I still use the Nivea and LOVE it! It’s my favorite, to date.
My favorite reads were What to Expect When You’re Expecting, the book and also the app. I still use them to the end of my pregnancy! There are some other good apps that I flip to and from, but WTE has been my go-to.
What were your first trimester favorites?
