We are always trying to come up with ways for our kids to help out around the house and teach them responsibility. Since Laikyn turned 3 this summer, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to give her a few chores and see how she did. She is an independent little girl already, so giving her things that make her feel even more independent have helped with her attitude. Can I get an extra amen for that? #threenager Teaching your toddler responsibility is a valuable lesson to start when they are young. Modeling and encouraging for them to be independent and responsible will grow within them each year. It’s amazing what the feeling of accomplishment will do for your toddler (and the help around the house isn’t so bad either)!
Since our oldest is only 3, I’ve given her 3 jobs this summer: put away toys, pick up clothes/shoes and feed the kitties. I bet you can guess which of the three of these is her favorite! I don’t want to overwhelm her with chores, so we started one at a time. As summer is ending, she is doing pretty great putting toys away (with direction, of course) and putting her clothes and shoes in appropriate places (after she changes 18 times in one day). We just recently started feeding the cats together, and this has changed her attitude so much! She LOVES reminding me to feed the kitties, getting the food out for them and “helping” them eat.
We got Mama Kitty the day we came home from the hospital with Lennyn, so she has been Laikyn’s little kitty to play with when I was feeding her sister or tending to the needs of a newborn. We played outside with MK last summer. Coming up on a year of being with us, MK decided to have kitties! She had 6 baby kittens (all orange) back in April. We naturally got attached and had to keep one of them. So now we have Mama Kitty and Sophia (her kitty) which could possibly be a girl or a boy…we don’t really know!?
Well, a couple of weeks ago, I was noticing that our usually slender MK was looking extra fluffy….and sure enough, she was pregnant! When we took these pictures of Laikyn feeding the cats with this Purina Pro Plan Cat food, she was pregnant and loving the food. The next morning, we came out and she had 5 new baby kittens! We were so excited, so of course we had to reward her with some Purina Pro Plan cat food and milk. So over the past year we’ve been through 12 kittens! I feel like a Cat Lady.
No kitten around here…our cats LOVE this food. Sophia and Mama Kitty both come running when they hear the can of wet cat food open, because they just love it! Purina Pro Plan Cat is perfect for our high activity cats, especially MK since she keeps having to give birth to kittens! We trust the Purina Pro Plan Cat formula for our spoiled cats!
I wanted to share with y’all the chart that we are using for chores! I also wanted to share it so you can customize it to your toddler’s chores! What are you doing to promote toddler independency? Do you have your child do chores? Do they feed and water the pet? Laikyn will be promoted to a new job each year or whenever she is developmentally ready. When is it time for her to start cooking and doing laundry?! Just kidding….kind of.
