We recently got the chance to travel to Dallas/Highland Park area for a little weekend with our family and it was just what we needed! My husband, Brett, was coming off of his extremely busy season, so it was like a little vacation of rest (wait, what’s that with kids?) and relaxation! I wanted to do a little round up of everything we did, where we ate and stayed as well as shopped and played! Highland Park is such a nice area of Dallas, so if you’re planning a trip, this would be a great place to plan to go!

We live about 350 miles from Dallas, so we hopped in the plane and made a quick jaunt over there since Brett is a pilot! We enjoy just getting in the plane and going rather than having to make the girls stay in their carseats for over 5 hours one way. We feel so fortunate that my father in law is also a pilot and has a plane that my husband can fly! It’s much better for the girls, and Brett takes any opportunity to get in the air – so it’s a win for all! We had a quick 1 hour flight to Dallas, landing at Dallas Executive which is just a few minutes away from The Highland Dallas, where we decided to stay! The Highland is very close to the SMU campus if you ever need to be close!
Since we flew, we needed transportation while town and we were able to try out the new 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander SEL from Drive Shop. It was the perfect size to accommodate our family for the weekend fitting all of our luggage, a double stroller, 2 carseats and 4 people comfortably! It was super cute and the perfect car for our family for the weekend! It’s always fun to drive a new car, too!
We arrived to The Highland late-afternoon on Friday, just in time to check into our luxurious 2 room suite and get settled before heading out for dinner! We were greeted with a full-on milk and cookie bar for the girls, which they absolutely LOVED! Seriously, I think they were in heaven with the sweets. I was already blown away with the hospitality of The Highland in Dallas! They even had a fun little basket of coloring books, puzzles and toys for the girls waiting in their room!
After checking out some of the property, we headed to dinner at Highland Park Village, Mi Cocina, which is one of our Dallas favorites! They were so accommodating for the girls, even though it was the busiest restaurant on a Friday evening! We ate our delicious Mexican dinner and headed back to get the girls down close after their bedtime! It was so nice to be able to put the girls to bed in their room, but still not have to whisper and not watch TV after they fall asleep! We got to have some adult time, too, which is a win for all!
Saturday morning, we had breakfast delivered to our room and it was SO so good. It was probably one of the best room-service breakfasts we’ve had!

I had an event with Draper James taking over their Snapchat that morning, so we headed back to Highland Park Village for that and the family came along! Then we had a snack at the most adorable, Bird Bakery (everything is amazing) and coffee at Royal Blue (have a lavender latte). All of these are my favorite Highland Park places to go! The shopping is great, the stores are quaint and it’s one of the nicest places to go in the area!

The girls needed naps after that, so we headed back to our hotel for some relaxing and were able to check out the pool and the rest of the property which is fabulous. I want to go back and go to the spa for some much needed mama time! We planned to take the girls to do something fun after naps, but all Laikyn (our 3 year old) wanted to do was go to the American Girl store. She didn’t even want to buy anything, she just always wants go to play with “all the American Girl babies and their homes”…and they did just that! After 2 hours of chasing them around the whole store while they played, they both picked out what they wanted to take home and we went back to The Highland to get ready for our dinner reservation at 7.
We at at The Knife on The Highland property and I highly recommend it! It is the perfect date night (but we had our kids who I PRAYED the entire time that they acted proper) spot and the food was so yummy! We are a steak family – all of us LOVE it…so we got 2 steaks and split them between the table as well as the sides which are family-style. Our favorite was the roasted okra and of course the filet. It was delicious!

After a good night’s sleep, we ordered one last round of room service breakfast and coffee! We had an early morning photo shoot with Becca of Beckley & C0 for our little family! It was so much fun and she’s amazing – highly recommend her if you need a Dallas photographer!

We checked out and said goodbyes to The Highland to head back to West Texas, but we know we will return again soon! It’s definitely become one of my Dallas favorites, and you can’t beat the location, the hospitality and the experience you will get at The Highland. Until next time, Highland Park…..
