You heard me right….rocking that velvet trend! I’m in your mom-head and I hear you saying…maybe she can do that, but there is nooooo wayyyyy I’m going to be trying that trend this season. I heard ya.
I also said that a few months ago. I wasn’t loving it. I hadn’t found any velvet pieces I loved. Well, then…I found some velvet pieces I loved and then fell in love with all things velvet! I wanted to give you a few things I look for when I’m purchasing velvet and then how to style it, yes, even as a mom!
When I thought velvet, my mind immediately went to dressy Christmas…maybe that’s because what my mom put us in when we were kids! But, now it’s so much more! It’s the hottest texture trend of the season and I’m loving it (and helping you love it too)!
So here are some things I look for when purchasing velvet pieces:
- The Quality – You cant get cheap-looking velvet and expect it to look great. You know what I’m saying…my top is actually on sale for $23 but it’s not cheap quality. It’s inexpensive enough to try the trend, but then again it’s good material.
- The Color – Stick with solids. I obviously am drawn to all things black, but I have also seen some really pretty champagne colors as well as this emerald green (thanks for talking me into it, Jordan!)
- The Shape – Look for something that’s going to make you feel great. Make sure it’s not itchy and isn’t going to rub off on your other clothes (back to the quality on that one).
Those are the three main things I look for when purchasing! This top was my first (of many) velvet purchases & I wanted to share a few of my favorites with you to get an idea of all of the cute ways you can wear velvet!
So how do you make it work as a mom? You just pull on your big girl pants and throw on your confidence and rock it, girl! I’ve had a few places where I can wear these outfits and not feel ridiculous (like obvi not a Chick-fil-a outfit) but it’s perfect for a date night or girls night out….speaking of, it’s about time for a girls’ night out.
Throwing together an outfit that has velvet as your focus piece? I love to pair it with another texture like faux leather leggings or distressed denim. I would also throw this faux leather moto jacket over a dress like this to give it some texture mixing!
What velvet outfits are you loving? I have a few things up my {velvet dress} sleeve for this weekend, so stay tuned and make sure you’re following along on Snap, Instagram and Facebook to see what I’m up to and where I’m going this weekend!
