I was 7 months pregnant when we built a house and moved in (before it was really ready), so I was more than overwhelmed and intimidated by decorating a new house. We’ve been through 2 different couches, 2 rugs and 2 chairs. Nothing seemed to work, and it was so daunting! The rugs were either too large or too small for our open living space, and the couch was either too large or oddly shaped. It seemed like we had tried everything….but we needed a rug! We needed a rug for my little ones to be able to crawl, dance and cartwheel….for us to lay on the floor and read…for us to host movie nights and indoor camp-outs. We desperately needed a rug!
I posted on my Facebook group searching for answers to our rug woes, and I got several responses to try a custom cut rug from Yate’s Flooring. I looked online some more, measured our living area, taped it off, measured again, did online virtual spacing apps, only to be left feeling way too overwhelmed and defeated. That’s when I knew it was time to go to Yate’s and see what they could do for us.
My husband measured the space, and drew a nice little diagram for me to take into Yate’s. I met with a consultant and within an hour we had picked out carpet, double-checked measurements and got the rug/carpet ordered. We decided to go with a carpet to bind it into a rug to fit our custom measurements. The measurements of the space are a bit weird, so getting a custom rug was the best decision we ever made. I wanted to go for a light tone of a high quality carpet that feels great on your feet. We decided on a light and soft carpet. I left feeling like a huge weight had been lifted off of my shoulders, and just knew this was going to help SO much.
When I was choosing the custom interior for our house, I decided on dark hardwood floors. Biggest mistake of my life. They are SO hard to keep clean and leave the worst footprints! I am constantly cleaning them and they look like they haven’t even been touched within hours. I knew that a large area rug would not only lighten our room, but it would help with the maintenance of the floors as well as add some coziness to our space.
In the meantime of waiting on the rug to be finished (start to finish it was a little less than a week), I decided to have our walls painted. When we built, we went with a beautiful tea glaze that turned out to be incredibly dark making the space feel much smaller than intended. We also have a wall texture that is perfect with glaze, but I was more than ready for a change…so we went with a Greige (grey/beige) by Sherwin Willams called Wordly Grey. It doesn’t pull any blue and doesn’t pull any more grey than it does beige. It’s really the perfect greige if you’re looking for a good neutral that goes with warm AND cool tones.
Once the walls were finished, we got the call to come get the carpet from the binding company. My husband went to pick it up, but they also can deliver or work something out for you if you don’t have access to a trailer. We unrolled it, vacuumed it and instantly my cozy house dreams came true! It’s amazing what a rug will do to turn an open and empty space into a cozy, warm feeling! We are completely in love with the rug from Yate’s and can’t say enough amazing things about how it has helped us transform our living area into everything I wanted it to be!
Yate’s has the best customer service around, hands down. From the ease of choosing the rug to the convenience of having it custom cut/bound, they have gone above and beyond to make our experience a great one! They have even called to check-in to make sure that we are loving the new rug! The staff is the kindest and easiest to talk to, which makes them feel more like a friend than it does a salesperson. They are going to be honest with you and upfront about pricing and quality. There are many different price points so it is affordable for everyone, and it’s honestly much less expensive to have a rug cut from carpet than you can find as a rug already. Our experience was amazing, and I highly recommend that you can use Yate’s for all of your flooring and home building/remodeling needs!
Here are a few before/after pictures with the space as well as links for all of the decor! I really love how the paint lightened the room and the rug made it a home.
