It’s almost Mother’s Day! When looking back on before I was a mother, I remember spending time with my mom on that day (well on every day) and remembering it being so special. My mom always wants us to help her plant flowers, so some Mother’s Days were spent doing that, and others were spent shopping and getting pedicures. No matter how we spent the day, it was special, because we were together.
Since moving 3 hours away from my mom, Mother’s Day has changed for me. We try to celebrate by meeting for a girl’s night or at least for dinner and a movie. I enjoy every chance that I get to spend with my mom, so it’s so special! This year, my parents are celebrating their 2oth wedding anniversary and Mother’s Day all in the same weekend, so we don’t have anything specific planned…although I hope I do get some one-on-one (which really means uninterrupted time without the kiddos) with her. I really want to go see Mother’s Day.
Since becoming a mom, I’ve had a new appreciation for my mom. You see, it’s not about the day that makes you feel special. You just feel special being a mom everyday. It’s like every day is mother’s day with my girls. I feel so blessed to be a mom, to have two healthy and beautiful girls and a loving family for us all to be a part of together. It’s not about the gifts (although I do have a wish list), it’s not about the amount of hugs and I Love Yous I get on that day; it’s about the joy in the every day. The joy you get when you see your baby smile at you for the first time. The joy that comes from seeing your baby take the first step, or say her prayers to God at night including the kitties and her sister’s bumped head that needs healing. It’s the joy that comes from within…the joy of the Lord through being a mom. I know now God’s love for us through being a mom. I feel His love through loving my kids. It’s just a special thing.
For all of you that aren’t moms (yet) love on your mamas because they love you. They birthed you. They nurtured you and helped you grow into the person you are today. They love you more than you’ll ever know. I love my mama more than she’ll ever know, and for me to think about her loving me even more than that (because, a mother’s love) is unfathomable!
For those of you who are moms: take time to enjoy your kiddos not just today, but every day. See the little things; soak them in. Take in the innocence and the laughter. Feel the love and the warmth that comes from their hugs. Savor every second, because in a blink they’ll be on to the next stage; whatever that may be.
Being a mom has been the biggest blessing of my life. I honestly feel like God created me to be a mom, and I feel like my girls were destined to be mine. I’m so thankful for that, and for my little family…because every day is my mother’s day.
