I’ve had lash extensions 3 separate times now, and nothing makes you feel more lovely than waking up and not having to apply makeup! I love the look of lash extensions, but I often get a few questions about them! Do they harm your eyelashes? Do they come out everyday? Do you wear makeup with them? What is the upkeep like? So today I am going to share my 5 tips for getting and keeping up with eyelash extensions. If you are thinking about getting them, I promise you won’t be disappointed!
I get my lash extensions at Amazing Lash Studio in Lubbock. There are SO many locations across the US, so check to see if you have one in your area. I have had them for about 2 months now and have had 2 fills. Once you have your full set, which takes about an hour to an hour and a half to apply, you will need to go back every 2-3 weeks to get them filled in. The fill usually take anywhere from 15-45 minutes depending on how your lashes look and stayed put from your last application. Every time I go, my stylist, Brook’lyn asks me WHAT I do to keep them on, because I can go 3 weeks in between fills without many falling out and they still look good by the time I get in for a fill.
I do a number of things to make sure that my lashes look great in between fills and now I’m going to share these secrets with YOU!
-
USE HIGH-GRADE, QUALITY LASHES
I only go to places that I trust are going to use high quality lashes and glue. Also, make sure your stylist knows what they are doing and are certified. I have not had a bad experience anywhere I’ve gone, but I have had horror stories. Do your research and make sure that you are going somewhere that you trust. I use Amazing Lash Studio.
-
ONLY WASH WITH OIL-FREE CLEANSER
Anything with oil is going to remove and loosen your lashes where they are bonded. Only use oil-free cleanser like this one to make sure that you are leaving your lashes right where they need to be – on your beautiful eyes! I wash the rest of my face with Rodan & Fields Redefine.
-
DO NOT APPLY MASCARA
I don’t usually wear makeup while I’m home with my kids, but I do when I go out for errands, dinner, etc. I also have permanent eyeliner so that does help, but I don’t apply any mascara to my lash extensions. You are able to do it if you’d like, but I don’t. It just keeps them looking better longer. Plus, you don’t really need it if your lashes are the right color. I do apply mascara to my lower lashes. I use this lower lash mascara.
-
WASH AND DRY YOUR FACE THE RIGHT WAY
Every time I get my face wet and wash it, I make sure that I’m not rubbing my eyes or moving my lashes. You need to be gentle around the area of your eyes, cleansing but not scrubbing. I also dry my eyes from underneath the eye instead of from top to bottom. It helps if I look up and dry my eyes with a towel on the lower lashes. Also, always brush your lashes after they’ve been wet. I usually swipe mine about 3-4 times a day to keep them pointed in the right direction. You can use any clean mascara wand with no mascara on it like this one. TIP: I get a few of these and keep one in my bathroom, one in my makeup bag, one in my diaper bag/purse and one in my car!

KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF OF AND OUT OF YOUR EYES
Try to not rub your eyes or touch your lashes. I know it’s hard. They’re luscious. They’re long and gorgeous. Just leave them alone and admire them from the mirror. The more you touch them, the more germs and oils are getting onto the lashes and the bond won’t stay as long. When you sleep, make sure that your lashes aren’t laying funny or you will wake up with them laying funny. Just like your hair when you sleep with it wet!
Now to answer those questions:
Do they harm your eyelashes?
No, they shouldn’t. If you use the right stylist/company they will not harm your lashes. Please do your research and trust who you are going to for your service.
Do they come out everyday?
They will come out naturally with your lashes. Do you know how many natural lashes you lose a day? You will lose much less of the lash extensions and they just fall off with your natural lash. It doesn’t hurt and you don’t need to keep each lash that falls out. When you get a fill, you will get new lash extensions in place of those lashes.
Do you wear makeup with them?
I use my normal makeup regimen with the lash extensions, minus the mascara. I only apply mascara to the lower lashes. I just don’t feel like I need it, but some of you may want to. There is not a rule that says you can’t apply mascara, but it just keeps them looking better for longer if you don’t.
What is the upkeep like?
I get fills every 3 weeks. Some people need to go every 2 weeks and some can go a month. A month is a little too long for me, but 2 weeks they still look brand new. I could probably push to a month but I wouldn’t be comfortable with waiting that long most times.
Do you like them better than falsies?
Yes. I’ve only worn falsies a few times, but I am just NO GOOD at applying falsies on my own. I’ve had a stylist do them on me before and they looked great, but I seriously wanted to leave them on forever. Which is why I decided to go ahead with the more semi-permanent lash extensions.
Are they permanent?
No. You can take them off whenever you want. Just make an appointment and make sure you take them off the right way to avoid damage. They are professionals, so please visit with them if you’d like to take them off for the best practices.
Any other questions? Don’t hesitate to ask!
