I feel honored that Ashlee has welcomed me back for another Fitness Friday!! If you know me or have followed me on Instagram then you probably know that I have a slight fear of working out alone.Okay, maybe not an legit fear, but I do crave the sense of community! Whether I am meeting a girlfriend for spin class or have a lunchtime gym date scheduled with my coworker…you won’t find me in the gym alone very often. Having an accountability partner {or group} can be a total game changer in your healthy lifestyle. Today I want to share my top 3 reasons why you need an accountability partner in your life.
1. You will have the ultimate confidant
Your fitness bestie is someone who encourages you to stay on top of your fitness game! When you find your accountability bestie {in most cases bestie becomes bestieS}, you will realize you aren’t alone with your struggles. She will be your biggest cheerleader in times of need. Like the time you text her asking her to convince you NOT to eat the chocolate bar. She will have your back and encourage you to stay on the path to reach your goals. You will be able to chat about anything. If your relationship is anything like the ones I have with my accountability partners, there is no such thing as “TMI”. Anything goes in that daily group text! We all need someone to tell our deepest secrets to, without fear of any judgment. We all need someone who will celebrate that button finally buttoning {can I get an amen!?}. We all need that girl who will give us grace and pick us back up after devouring an entire pizza in one sitting. Your fitness bestie will always have your back
2. You won’t be alone
I think one of the biggest struggles people face with living a healthy lifestyle is the fear of feeling alone in the process. The greatest gift my accountability group has given me is the feeling that I will never walk alone in this journey. My challenge group is full of women who live busy lives, but want to make fitness a priority. On the days I have to wake up at 430am to fit my workout in, there’s a girl to text me to make sure I’m up! On the days I want to skip out on my workout during lunch, there’s a girlfriend waiting for me in the gym. On the Friday evening I want to cancel my cyclebar class because my husband is working late, my accountability partner offers to watch the babies for me. You are less likely to skip out on your workout when you have a likeminded friend waiting depending on you for support. Your partner wants to see you succeed and will do all that she can to make sure that happens!
3. You will be a part of something bigger than yourself
We all know that health and wellness has exploded on social media! Can you remember the last time your Instagram feed wasn’t flooded with photos of smoothie bowls, sweaty selfies, or #flexfriday photos?! Social media provides a free online accountability community! When I first started my health and fitness journey, I used social media as my source of accountability. Heck, I still do!! Originally, my thought process was “if I can’t share it, I can’t eat it”, in other words, I was a posting freak! I would post every meal and every workout on my Instagram account just to keep myself accountable. I am sure people got annoyed, but who cares? There’s always the unfollow button.
I honestly can’t imagine my fitness journey without social media. The friendships I’ve formed through social media have truly blossomed into ones I will always cherish. I was so honored to be a bridesmaid in my girlfriend’s wedding, whom I MET ONLINE. Our story is a fun one to tell. I also joined a group of inspiring women and created our own online safe place for women helping other women…through a hashtag! It’s because of social media that I’ve been encouraged to step out of my comfort zone and try new things… like sharing on Little Lovelies! You hear so many negative opinions about social media, but I believe {with limited usage} it’s a beautiful place. I can honestly tell you I don’t think I could ever complete a program without the support I crave from my little community!
If you find yourself missing your goal time and time again, then you need someone to push you to the finish line! When you surround yourself with the right cheerleader{s} in your corner, I promise you will begin to crush goals on a whole new level!
