All that glitters is….GOLD. Laikyn’s much anticipated toddler room is finally finished and photographed! A girly-glam-gold-glitter toddler room has made all of a little almost-three-year-old’s dreams come true.
We transitioned Laikyn out of her crib back in December to a full size bed. I wanted to change her room up to make it her own so when I asked LC what kind of room she wanted, she told me a gold princess room! I didn’t want to do the usual little girl princess thing, and definitely wanted to make her room last her for several years…so I began brainstorming. I had been seeing these gold wallpaper walls on pinterest and fell in love, but our walls are textured and wall paper wasn’t an option. So, I tried to find how to DIY a gold glitter wall. No such luck, so I decided to try out my own way to do a gold glitter wall. Through much trial and error, the gold glitter wall turned out perfect (well, with some touching up still to do) but she absolutely loves it.
The wall is a focal point for her room, and we pretty much planned everything else around it. It will probably have to be retextured, so I really hope gold stays in style for a long while!
I wanted to make her room feel girly without making it little girly, if that makes sense. My friend Shanna suggested I look at PB Teen for bedding, and I became obsessed with the Emily + Merritt Collection. It was the perfect touch her room needed. Mammie and Pop Pop gave her the bedding for Christmas so my motivation to get her room finished was happening!
However, I was going to have to put up rails for her bed so she wouldn’t fall out when sleeping. Since she’s still little (was 2.5 years when we transitioned her) I worried about this. Then I found Beddy’s. Beddy’s changed my life. We chose the princess-y pink color called Vintage Blush II. It’s a high quality bedding collection that can work on any size bed. The bedding/comforter has full length zippers on both sides to keep the child in the bed and make it easy for them to zip it up! This has become LC’s first chore: making her bed! She loves it!
I tied in the two bedding collections to create the perfect toddler room for our little girl. Her love for pink flamingos, playing the piano and reading books is also a reason for many of the things in her room.
Much of the decor was transferred/painted from her nursery and tied into her “big girl room” by just painting! We used all of the same Bratt Decor furniture as her nursery by just using the full size bed converter kit.
The chalkboard is a special touch that I love, because this is the chalkboard I used to track Laikyn’s pregnancy pictures each week as my belly grew with her growing inside. Brett made me this chalkboard a little before I even knew I was pregnant with Laikyn, to track our Great Dane’s monthly pictures. It then turned into Laikyn’s weekly growth pictures. It is such a sweet reminder to see it hanging, and her drawing circles and stick people on it.
I wanted to create a space that she could play in, a place for her to go when she wants to draw and read; and I think this area is already loved! If only we could keep her sister from having chalk for a snack! 😉
The sign above her bed was made by a dear friend of mine, Leila Blanche Designs, and it’s a song that we sing all of the time. She also made my front door sign HERE. Name that song….?? Any of you know it?
The Lorena Canals rug is another detail of Laikyn’s room that I love, because it’s washable! What is more perfect in a toddler’s room than a rug you can throw into the washing machine? We’ve washed it at least 3 or 4 times now and it’s still looking perfect!
Laikyn loves her big girl room, and spends lots of time in there reading books to her sister and all of her babies! I can’t wait to watch her grow and learn in this room: to give her a place to hang her backpack up as she starts preschool, to see her wait for the tooth fairy as she loses her first tooth, and to make many wonderful memories as a family in and out of those walls. It’s such a special place, labored with love … and lots and lots of glitter.
