What is it that actually makes you a cool mom? Aren’t we all just trying to be the best moms to our kids?

We make them take their daily vitamins and remind them to say their prayers or wash their hands. We try to keep them safe and healthy; praying that they are raised the right way. We teach them right and wrong, when to talk and when to listen, how to be strong but sweet and how to get through life as a toddler (as best as we can).
I’m going to quote Mean Girls, because what mom doesn’t like to live by the words of Regina George’s mom, “I’m a cool mom…right? I’m not a regular mom, I’m a cool mom!”
My thoughts may be different than most, but I’m just trying to be “cool” in my kids eyes even when cool doesn’t look the same as some may think! Here are some thoughts that I live by in motherhood, which in my head makes me more of a cool mom than a regular mom. 😉
Being a cool mom doesn’t mean you have to do exactly what you want them to. It doesn’t mean that you have to be their best friend instead of their parent. It doesn’t mean that you buy the coolest new toy or the best designer clothes out there.
Being a cool mom means:
It means that you take time to love them.
It means you take time to play with them, even when you have laundry piled high and dishes in the sink from last night.
It means that you care enough to let them do some things on their own so they’ll learn how to zip a zipper before they go to school.
It means that you pray for them and care for them daily.
It means that you do your best to be the best parent you can to them.
It means that you let them pick breakfast once in a while, and if it’s donuts with Fruity Pebbles on top, that’s perfectly fine.
It means you love them. You love yourself. You love deeply and intently.
Being a cool mom may seem like it’s out of reach and that you’re really not that cool (because who really is cool, anyway?) but cool is different for everyone. My kids think I’m the coolest, and I’m good with them thinking that!
We’ve teamed up with Nordstrom today for this post and I wanted to write something a little different. Us moms can get so down on ourselves in the daily trudge of of motherhood. I’ve heard several moms talk so negatively about themselves and I just want you to know today that you’re doing a great job! Your kids think you’re the coolest, and that’s what is important!
I don’t really know if it’s cool or not, but I love to dress my girls alike often. They are 2 years apart and my dreams when I had my second daughter was that they would get to have cute matching outfits! Sisters are SO fun, and I’ll continue to match them until they think matching is so NOT COOL. Ha!
I find most of their matching outfits at Nordstrom because it’s easy to mix and match with their different sizes. I usually let Laikyn pick something out and then find something that’s similar in Lennyn’s size. Sometimes I even match with them, and that’s probably not cool..but it makes me happy and that’s what matters, right?
The girls outfits are actually mix and match and will be able to go with so many other outfits! I love the versatility of a good mix-and-match outfit! These leggings will be easy to pair with a sweater and ugg boots into winter!
You can shop all of our kid favorites using this tool below! I’ve done one for girls and one for boys, because even though I don’t have boys…it’s still fun to look at the cute boy outfits! Maybe one day, but I’d totally be okay with all girls! They’re SO fun!

Today, I encourage you to find something COOL about yourself. Whatever you are doing: stop, think and tell yourself you’re doing a great job. Tell yourself that you’re a cool mom and that your kids think you’re the bomb.com (is it not cool to say that anymore? haha). Encourage yourself and your kids…remember that being cool means that you are living your days loving your family!
We all may think we are just regular moms, but I’m quite certain that we are all super cool! Have a great day, lovelies!
