The holidays are here, yall! I couldn’t be more excited to start all of our Christmas festitivies! This year, we will be splitting our time between two families, so quick travel is crucial (especially with two kiddos). Traveling is one of the most tedious things to do in life; it’s like hurry up, then wait and it’s all fun and games until someone’s got to go to the bathroom.
I wanted to pass along some of the things we do to pass the time when traveling with our kids! I have taken many trips alone with my two toddlers, so these things actually help me keep my sanity while driving around two demanding little human beings.
Whether driving, flying, taking the subway or riding your bike down the street, we all like to find ways to make the time go by more quickly and keep our mind on something else! Here are 5 of my favorite ways for my family and I to pass time while traveling!
- Audible Audiobooks – I chose this for first because it is almost always what I am listening to from my phone. I have wireless headphones like these so the girls can listen to their movie and I can listen to my book, usually the one selected for each month’s bookclub. I love that you can quickly download the book and that the book selected for bookclub is almost always available! Audible is a great way to make that time spent traveling most enjoyable by listening to a new audiobook! - Games – I love to play games with my kids! My kids are toddlers so our games consist of “I Spy” and “Cloud Shapes” but it gets their little brains thinking! I also bring along things for the girls to do like mess-free coloring and other fun activities to keep them busy (and avoid questions like are we there yet? 80 thousand times before we even leave the driveway)!
- Singing Christmas Carols – Come November 1, you better believe I’ve got some Christmas music playing. We love to sing together (even if it’s not on tune) and tell Christmas stories!
- Tablets – We all have our own tablets (yes, even my toddlers…) and I’m not even ashamed of it. We all need one for different reasons and when we upgrade our tablets, we just pass them down the line. The girls usually play learning games or watch cartoons, which in turn keeps me sane so I can listen to my book! 😉 #winWIN
- TALK – What better way to communicate, tell stories and talk about anything under the sun than being stuck in a car or plane together for hours? I know it’s when a lot of our discussing goes on (especially because we have to travel to get anywhere from our small town) so I can count on conversation then. Sometimes, that’s the only uninterrupted conversation that my husband and I get during a day, especially since the girls are strapped in their carseats and occupied! Sometimes we even talk about the audiobook we’re listening to, because let’s face it, you get involved in books and need to talk about it!

I didn’t include to eat snacks because it’s inevitable that we snack no matter what we’re doing! Which reminds me, I need to go make some Christmas goodies for our trip next weekend!
